Chwele Market Modernization

Chwele Market, located in Mt. Elgon constituency of Bungoma County, is one of the largest open-air markets in western Kenya. The modernization project involved construction of permanent market sheds, improved drainage and sanitation facilities, proper access roads, lighting, and a security perimeter. The market serves as a major agricultural trading hub for the Mt. Elgon region, where farmers sell maize, beans, livestock, and dairy products. The project was funded through a combination of county government resources and national government market improvement programs.
