Description
The Kenya Water and Sanitation Development Project (WSDP) is a US$330 million World Bank-funded program to improve water supply and sanitation services across Kenya's coastal region. Approved in 2017, the project serves Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Taita Taveta counties through the Coast Water Works Development Agency. Components include new water distribution infrastructure, sewerage systems, waste water treatment plants, and institutional strengthening of the Mombasa Water and Sewerage Company (MOWASCO). The project addresses a critical gap where Mombasa water production only meets 25% of demand.
Overview
Largest water and sanitation investment in coastal Kenya's history, addressing chronic water scarcity that affects millions of coast residents and threatens the tourism industry.
