Description

The Dongo Kundu Bypass is a major road project connecting Mombasa's South Coast (Likoni) directly to the West Mainland (Port Reitz/Changamwe) and onward to Mombasa Port and the Nairobi highway, bypassing Mombasa Island entirely. The project includes a freeway, bridges, and interchanges, and is linked to the development of a Special Economic Zone (Dongo Kundu SEZ) on the adjacent land. Funded primarily by Japan (JICA), the bypass will eliminate the Likoni Ferry bottleneck for cargo and significantly improve logistics around Mombasa Port.

Overview

Eliminates the Likoni Ferry bottleneck, improves Mombasa Port access, catalyzes industrial development through the Special Economic Zone.
