Description
The Migori section of the A1 highway rehabilitation runs from Isebania at the Kenya-Tanzania border through Migori town towards Kisii. This section carries heavy international transit traffic between Mombasa and Mwanza ports via the Southern Corridor. The road had deteriorated to a 4-5m wide carriageway with severe potholes, causing frequent accidents. The rehabilitation includes widening to a proper dual carriageway through Migori town, construction of the Suna interchange, and installation of road safety features. The KES 8.6 billion Lot 1 contract was awarded to China Henan International Corporation Group.
