Description
The rehabilitation of the 172km Isebania-Kisii-Ahero highway is a major road project on the A1 corridor connecting Tanzania to South Sudan through Migori, Kisii, Homa Bay, and Kisumu counties. Funded jointly by the African Development Bank (AfDB loan of US$228 million approved in March 2016) and the Government of Kenya, the project is packaged in two lots. Lot 1: Isebania-Kisii (86km) awarded to China Henan International Corporation Group at KSh 8.6 billion, which was reported 85% complete by 2022. Lot 2: Kisii-Ahero (84km). The project includes upgrading associated feeder roads totaling over 200km, building service roads at commercial centres, bus terminals at Oyugis and Migori, and a Roadside Traffic Crash Trauma Centre at Nyabondo Hospital. The road serves over 2 million people in the Lake Victoria Basin.
