Benefits
Description
The Kisumu to Busia road dualling is part of President William Ruto's comprehensive dual-carriageway program announced during the launch of the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit highway in November 2025. The project will transform the existing single-carriageway road connecting Kisumu city to the Busia border post into a modern dual carriageway. The corridor is critical for trade on the Northern Corridor, linking Kenya's third-largest city to the Uganda border and handling significant commercial traffic. The road upgrade follows the planned Mau Summit to Kericho and Kisumu dual carriageway, creating a continuous high-capacity route from Nairobi to the Uganda border. Detailed designs and financing arrangements are being developed.
Overview
Will create a seamless dual-carriageway corridor from Nairobi to the Uganda border via Kisumu, dramatically improving trade efficiency on the Northern Corridor and reducing accidents on one of western Kenya's busiest roads.
