Description
Lake Turkana Wind Power is the largest wind farm in Africa, located at Loiyangalani in Marsabit County near the southeastern shore of Lake Turkana. The project features 365 Vestas V52 wind turbines generating 310MW of electricity, approximately 17% of Kenya's installed capacity. The wind farm was developed by a consortium including KP&P Africa, Aldwych International, and various Development Finance Institutions. A 428km high-voltage transmission line was built to connect the remote wind farm to the national grid.
Overview
Africa's largest wind farm, providing clean energy equivalent to 17% of Kenya's installed capacity, demonstrating the viability of large-scale renewable energy in Africa.
