Description
The Liwatoni Floating Bridge is a 660-metre pedestrian floating bridge across the Likoni Channel in Mombasa, built by China Road and Bridge Corporation at a cost of KES 1.5 billion. Constructed as an interim solution to complement the Likoni Ferry while the Mombasa Gate Bridge is being planned, it provides a walking crossing for pedestrians between Mombasa Island and the South Coast mainland. The bridge was built rapidly in response to overcrowding on the Likoni Ferry, especially during COVID-19 pandemic social distancing requirements.
