Inter-county connectivity, sugarcane transport, all-weather access, trade enhancement

Description

The Mbale-Luanda road upgrade involved constructing an 18km bitumen road connecting Mbale in Vihiga County to Luanda in Siaya County. The road serves as a critical inter-county connector and is important for the sugar belt, transporting sugarcane from Vihiga to processing facilities. Previously, the murram road was notorious for being impassable during rainy seasons, severely disrupting trade and travel between the two counties. The project included proper drainage, culverts, pedestrian walkways through trading centres, and road safety features.

Overview

Critical inter-county connector serving the sugar belt and high-density farming areas of Vihiga and Siaya
