Description
The Nairobi BRT project plans to introduce dedicated bus lanes, modern bus stations, and organized public transit along major Nairobi corridors. The initial phase targets the Thika Road corridor (Line 1) and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Westlands via Mombasa Road/Uhuru Highway (Line 2). Funded by the World Bank and French Development Agency (AFD), the project aims to modernize Nairobi's chaotic matatu-dominated public transport system. Progress has been slow with lengthy design and planning phases.
Overview
First dedicated mass transit system for Nairobi, Africa's fourth most congested city, intended to transform urban mobility for millions of commuters.
