The Sabatia Sub-County Hospital upgrade is part of Vihiga County's health infrastructure improvement program. The project includes construction of a new maternity wing, a modern surgical theatre, expanded outpatient department, laboratory upgrade, and staff housing. Sabatia is one of the most densely populated sub-counties in Kenya, and the hospital serves as a critical healthcare facility for the area. The upgrade aims to reduce referrals to Kakamega County General Hospital and provide essential surgical and maternal services closer to the community. The project is funded through county health budgets and national government conditional grants.
