Description

Phase 2A extended the Standard Gauge Railway from Nairobi to Naivasha (Suswa), covering approximately 120km. Built by CRBC at a cost of approximately KES 150 billion, this phase was intended as a stepping stone toward Kisumu and eventually the Uganda border. The line currently terminates at the Naivasha Inland Container Depot. Chinese financing for further phases was not forthcoming, leaving the extension to Kisumu and beyond uncertain.

Overview

Extended SGR into the Rift Valley, created the Naivasha Inland Container Depot as a dry port, but remains a stranded asset without extension to Malaba/Uganda border.
