Vihiga County Roads Improvement Programme

Improved market access, reduced travel time, better healthcare accessibility, agricultural produce transport, economic connectivity

Vihiga County, one of Kenya's smallest and most densely populated counties, has been implementing a roads improvement programme to enhance connectivity within the county and to neighboring Kakamega and Kisumu counties. The programme includes upgrading of the Mbale-Luanda road, improvement of market access roads, and maintenance of the road network linking the county's five sub-counties. The county government has invested in grading, graveling, and partial tarmacking of key routes. Vihiga County borders Kakamega Forest and benefits from the broader Kakamega-Kisumu highway improvements. The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has also been involved in upgrading rural roads in the county as part of national programmes.

Vital for economic development in one of Kenya's most densely populated rural counties, improving access to markets, healthcare, and educational facilities for the county's approximately 600,000 residents.
