Awards season in music and entertainment rolls on, and attention is now turning to the BET Awards 2026, one of the calendar's biggest celebrations of Black achievement across music, film, television and sport.
The ceremony is scheduled for late June at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with comedian and actor Druski stepping into the host role for the first time. The nominations, announced last month, have set the stage for a competitive night.
Leading the field is Cardi B, who picked up six nominations, the most of any artist this year. Close behind are Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist, each with five nominations. The spread of nods across established superstars and rising names reflects a year in which the genre's old guard and its newer voices are jostling for the spotlight.
This edition also introduces fresh categories, a sign that the show continues to evolve with the culture it celebrates. New honours have been added to recognise standout contributions, broadening the ways in which artists and creatives can be acknowledged on the night.
The BET Awards have long been more than a trophy ceremony. They double as a cultural moment, known for headline performances, tributes and the occasional viral surprise, drawing a global audience well beyond the United States. For fans across Africa, including in Kenya, the show is a chance to see familiar international stars share a stage and to track which artists are shaping the sound of the moment.
With the host confirmed, the nominees locked in and Cardi B out in front, the only question left is who will actually walk away with the hardware when the lights go up.
